Genesis 3:20 Commentary

Verse 20: Eve, or life, is a very expressive name of her, who was to be the mother of all living; and most expressive, if we regard that seed she should bring forth, who should destroy death, and in whom all his people should be made alive. In this view, her name was a profession of Adam’s faith in the promise; and thus beautifully comes in after the dreadful sentence, to show that though God visited his iniquities with the rod, and his sin with scourges; yet his loving-kindness would he not utterly take from him.
